Ford Hart worked on Taiwan policy repeatedly over the course of his 33-year U.S. diplomatic career, including during assignments at the State Department, the White House, the Pentagon, and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Drawing on these experiences, Ford will offer his personal thoughts on Taiwan’s place in U.S.-P.R.C. relations, the potential for conflict, and the importance of these issues for New Zealand.

About Ford Hart
Ford Hart is a former National Security Council China/Taiwan Director at the White House (2002-04), US Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau (2013-16), and US Special Envoy for the Six-Party Talks (2011-13). His 33-year diplomatic career also included postings in Mainland China, the USSR, and Iraq and assignments at the State Department and the Pentagon. Ford is Senior Advisor to Bower Group Asia, a government relations consultancy. Ford is a regular speaker on foreign policy, including for events hosted by Goldman Sachs, Citibank, and Forsyth Barr. Ford began his career in 1980 as a foreign/defense policy assistant on then Senator Joseph Biden’s staff.
